Whole House FM Transmitter

You love to listen to music while you are in the house doing things such as chores or odd jobs. All your favorite music is on your iPod or your computer. You don’t really want to wear headphones or earbuds but you can’t hear your music when you are out of the room.

This is a common challenge for many people. One solution is to install speakers in the other rooms of your home. This means feeding wires from your audio output to each set of the speakers in each room. For the music to be heard all over the house this is a lot of work, and fairly costly.

An easier solution is for the music to travel wirelessly throughout your home. This can be done quite simply using an FM transmitter. An FM transmitter is a device that plugs into your audio or video player and the sound is broadcast through the transmitter as an FM radio signal which can then be picked up by a receiver such as a radio.

Using an FM transmitter could easily solve your problem of having music in any room of your house. Unfortunately most FM transmitters on the market have a short range of around 9 m which using an average radio  isn’t a strong enough signal to reach all the rooms in your house.

In order to solve this problem you really need to find an FM transmitter that can broadcast throughout your home. You want to look for a product that is marketed as a whole house FM transmitter, rather than a regular FM transmitter. You also want to make sure that your whole house FM transmitter is stereo. To get good quality music you also want to have stereo FM radios in your home. Stereo radios  are probably the cheapest audio devices to buy and can be easily installed on the wall.

How to set up the whole house FM transmitter

Connect your audio source (iPod , computer, CD Player)to the Stereo FM Transmitter with one of the supplied audio cables (either the Stereo Headphone Jack or Stereo RCA jack)
Find an unused FM station in your area It doesn’t matter if the channel has some static from another broadcasting station. Set the Stereo FM Transmitter to that unused FM station (using the switches on the side of the Stereo FM Transmitter)
To begin broadcasting turn on the Stereo FM Transmitter by pressing down the switch on the front of the unit.
Adjust any FM Radio to the signal that you are broadcasting on. Then you are good to go – it’s that easy!

Whole house FM transmitters do not take a lot of electricity to run. In fact if you had it on all the time for a whole year it would use around one dollar worth of electricity. All types of whole house FM transmitters come with an antenna. You can experiment by placing the antenna in different areas to find the spot which gives you the largest range of signal.

By using a whole house FM transmitter you are basically creating your own personal FM music station that plays the music you love whenever you want it. You just choose and in to your own frequency and your music will be broadcast throughout your whole house.
